Four tractor-trailer rigs, the first slowing for an earlier solo crash near McArthur Burney Falls Memorial State Park Saturday, collided at about 1:50 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol reported at about 1:18 p.m. a sedan had crashed off Highway 89 just north of the park, with the occupants sustaining only minor injuries.
About 30 minutes later, a big rig driven by Julian Brereton, 53, of Phoenix, Ariz., slowed, and his trailer was hit from behind by Gregory Ward, 53, of Redding.
Ward’s rig was struck from behind by another one driven by John Carlton, 80, of Burney. Then, finally, Carlton’s rig was hit from the back by a big rig driven by James Greilich, 61, of Redding.
No injuries were reported, but two of the rigs had to be towed from the scene, and one lane of the highway was blocked for about two-and-one-half hours, CHP officer Kurt Heuer said.
