A 77-year-old Burney man, who passed out while driving his vehicle into the Pit River Casino parking lot on Halloween Day, hit a parked van.
Douglass West Kjellmark pulled into the parking lot about 11:23 a.m. and blacked out, according to his passenger Alva Houston, as told to the California Highway Patrol. Nevertheless, Kjellmark continued accelerating the vehicle and crashed into the parked van. No one was seriously injured. The entire event was caught on the casino’s surveillance camera.
Kjellmark is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, the CHP reported.

A 24-year-old Burney woman driving a Shasta County sedan failed to notice a small pickup that had stopped in front of her Friday at about 2:47 p.m. on Highway 299 in Johnson Park rear-ended the pickup, the California Highway Patrol reported. Jennifer Gideon was traveling east, and her vehicle struck the pickup driven by Doris Frank, 76, of Oswego, Ore., who was stopped to make a left turn onto Oregon Street. Frank, her two passengers, and Gideon reported only minor injuries in the collision.
