A Johnson Park man lost his travel trailer and contents in a fire Thursday morning at the Rainbow’s End Trailer Park. Justin Bushey was reportedly returning to his older 20-foot travel trailer when he saw the flames at approximately 11 a.m. According to Fire Prevention Officer Howard Fincher, an engine, a water tender, and five Burney Fire Protection District, firefighters were on the scene by 11:07 a.m. A faulty portable heater caused the fire, Fincher said.
The structure, nearly gone when firefighters arrived, was a total loss estimated at $1,500. On Christmas Day, at 2:27 a.m., the Burney Fire Protection District received an alarm call at Los Molinos Mobile Home Park on Highway 299 across from Tamarack, where a lawn chair was on fire.
Fincher said they could not determine the cause. The fire department also responded to a call at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 25 from a caller who heard a possible explosion in Michigan, but firefighters did not find anything amiss.
Fincher said the Burney Fire District has responded to 22 calls for medical aid or fire since Dec. 18.
